Lolo’s Chicken and Waffles

Many consider Lolo’s Chicken and Waffles the best soul food restaurant in the Valley. The chicken and waffle plates brings curious visitors from all parts of the Phoenix metropolitan area to try the combination.

With Southern fried chicken and golden brown waffles Lolo’s satisfies that curiousity.

But chicken and waffles aren’t the only dishes at Lolo’s. They also serve catfish, chicken gizzards, grits and more Southern soul favorites.

The amiable family restaurant has been celebrated in publications from the Arizona Republic to the Food & Life dining guide.

Lolo’s is locatiod at 10 West Yuma Street – two blocks south of the intersection of Buckeye and Central.
Even more interesing though, is the approval of famous guests from Phoenix and beyond. The walls are covered with a diverse array of autographs from local basketball favorites Amare Stoudamire and Charles Barkely to an American hero Tuskegee airman.

I’ve heard of this place before, I gotta give it a try. It’ll be part of my tour since i’m new here and still learning my way around.

Here are two other places you should put on your food tour:

Los Olivos. Authentic mexican food. They’ve been in the same building in downtown Scottsdale for decades. It’s right next to SMoCA and the civic center.

New Jersey Italian Deli. On the corner of E. Greenway and Cave Creek. Total hole in the wall but best Italian food for hundreds of miles. Try a cannoli, you won’t be dissapointed.

I come to Phoenix once a year, for the Phoenix Improv Festival, and I always include a visit to Lo-Lo’s.

Lo Lo’s is O.k but the ambiance screams hole in the wall and with the money they have to be making they need an extreme makeover. Lately I’ve been patronizing a soul food restaurant in Avondale called 5395. the restaurant is located on central between van buren and lower buckeye ( central in Avondale not in metro Phoenix). the menu is extensive the food divine and the atmoshpere makes you feel like your in a sweet down home eatry.
