Talkin’ Diamondbacks …

How ’bout a little sports talk? The All-Star break, the unofficial halfway point of the baseball season, is over, and, after Saturday’s win, the Diamondbacks are at .500 and three games out of first place. The NL West is better than it was last year but still a division up for grabs.

Brandon Webb (10 strikeouts on Saturday) has been phenomenal, but you have to wonder if the D-Backs have the pitching to hold up down the stretch. With one of the strongest farm systems, do they mortgage a bit of the future to make a move for a front-line starting pitcher? The July 31 trading deadline is fast approaching. If they fade, do they deal away Luis Gonzalez?

A four-game home series with the Dodgers (who are 2.5 games out of first) that starts Monday could be a hint at what direction the D-Backs will go.
