One Red Paperclip

How come I can never come up with ideas like that? If you haven’t heard the news, just Google “oneredpaperclip” and you’ll get it. This guy started trading last July (on craigslist) with a single red paperclip and now he’s up to one year’s free rent in a Phoenix duplex. Not bad, not bad at all. What I’ve learned from this story? People just want something entertaining & fun to read about in the news, that’s why stories like this get gobbled up so quickly and next thing you know the guy is getting offers from Hollywood to turn it into a movie concept (which he’s already gotten). With all the killing and bird flu, west nile, eye drops make you go blind sort of news, it’s no wonder than an upbeat story like this gets nationwide press. Anyone want to trade me something cool for this clock?

Senate Bill 1276

While not nearly as important as other bills, SB1276 is a classic David vs. Goliath battle. At the center are local AZ wineries fighting for the right to distribute their own product while commercial wholesalers are trying to strong-arm them into using a commercial channel. If you’re writing to your legislators about other issues (which most everyone should be doing in this day and age of “government out of touch with reality”), why not throw in a plug in favor of SB 1276. Several local wineries have endorsed it as a good compromise and are seeking support in passing it.

Happy Easter :)

Did you hunt for easter eggs or anything today? Eat ham or lamb? (We had lamb.)

And…

Are you up tonight like me finishing up your taxes? I know, probably most of you have long since gotten yours done, but not me. I just haven’t had the time. But I figured I’d better make time tonight, since they’re due tomorrow.

Dust Storm

Wicked winds brought a layer of dust to the valley. This photo shot from the top of South Mountain.

Go fly a toilet

Flying toilets? Giant tacos? This is something I have to see. It’s all at Flugtag Arizona a few weeks from now (April 29th). And if you can’t make it to the flying day, you can at least play their game.

Either you get it or you do not…

azeroth.jpgwow_dvd.jpg

Yes, it is true. They have gone bye-bye. Metroblogging Azeroth has gone live. I have dual citizenship there (to my wife’s chagrin). I wonder if they will let me on the blogging team? How many of you WoW? My main is a 56 lock on Scarlet Crusade. There, I am now fully outed…

1157

Tired of waiting for the feds to act our state legislature passed Seante Bill 1157 - entitled trespassing by illegal aliens and sent it on to the Governor for her signature. This is a bill that allows for the arrest and prosecution of illegal aliens under Arizona’s trespassing laws. A Class A misdemeanor for the first offense, and possible hangings for repeat offenders, or something like that. This comes just two days after historic marches in support of immigration reform. Our two U.S. Senators have come out against the bill (yes, even Senator Kyl). No monies are attached to the bill, but I guess deputizing the militia could help solve that. Curious how your rep voted? Arizona Sun Corridor Megapolitan

They are predicting that in the next few years we will merge with Tucson to become one big ass megalapolis. I think we need to develop north past Surprise and merge with Vegas.
