I am a taxi driver in San Jose California and trust me the airport could care less how much money a cabbie makes. Always note the taxi company name and number on the side of any taxi you get into. There should be a sticker somewhere in the back of the cab with information, a phone number where you can direct your complaints. Do it! Turn in the bad drivers and do not tip. Don't let them put your life and others at risk. When you do get a good cab ride thank your driver and tip accordingly.

The SAME thing happened to me recently. And lemme tell you this...I was mad as a rattlesnake.

When I asked the Taxi Driver about it, he agreed that it was the dumbest thing he's seen in quite a while. Considering what he sees on a daily basis, that's a pretty strong statement.

I am so tempted to write my councilman and ask him about this.

It's just dumb.

It ticked me off when they did this - I'm in the same boat as you in that I live in central Phoenix and it was about $3-4 cheaper to catch a taxi on the south curb than it is on the north curb. And to have one taxi line for one of the busiest terminals in the country is totally insane. Someone really wasn't thinking when they made that change.
