Don’t Blink or You’ll Miss It

With the rain comes all kinds of life…the brilliant red dragonflies buzzing around that won’t be still long enough for me to snap a few photos of them, the cottontails looking for food to eat, and some of the night blooming cereus sending out flower shoots again.

The desert knows just how to conserve its energy and go “dormant” when it’s too hot and dry, but when it gets wet again, watch out. Don’t blink or you’ll miss all the beauty the desert has to offer. Even when you think it’s over for the season.

And every once in awhile you might get a day like today where the high barely reached the 90s. Sure it’s humid, but after weeks and weeks of triple digits, it’s a nice breather. By the way, it was hotter today in Minneapolis/St. Paul than it was here. How often does that happen in August?
