Raindrops keep falling on my head…

clouds02-2628-400x300-072604 Did you know that Monsoon season in the valley officially starts after three consecutive days with an average dewpoint of at least 55 degrees? Provided tomorrow follows in the footsteps of today and Monday, Monsoon 2005 will be upon us.

Despite the uncomfortable and sticky humidity, this is my favorite part of summer. I love sitting on my balcony during an evening summerstorm, the scent of rain mixing with the hot, dusty concrete brings back happy childhood memories. Of course, this time of year is just another excuse for me to take my camera with me everywhere I go. The sound of rain against my window, the clap of thunder that follows a bright burst of lightning… ah, music to my ears!

The only thing I truly dislike about the Monsoon season is the way it turns so many people into panicky or reckless drivers! Southbound Seventh Avenue, my usually (mostly) easy rout home every afternoon, becomes a sea of too-fast or too-slow drivers. Even worse, the so-called Suicide Lane (the northbound-only center lane between 4pm – 6pm) is even more dangerous than it is when the streets are bone-dry.

Beware when it’s wet outside, and take a few minutes to enjoy the rain and slightly cooler temperatures, no matter how briefly they last!
